Southwest Equitable Internet Initiative

Fiber Internet is coming to SW Detroit

Currently, 40% of Detroit residents do not have access to internet. The Equitable Internet Initiative Southwest Detroit focuses on building a community based high-speed internet network, available at a low-cost with no contract to those who otherwise might not be able to afford internet in their household. EII Southwest is networked and run by Digital Stewards, residents of Southwest Detroit who are highly trained to provide quality WiFi instillation services. To date, EII Southwest has connected 50 homes to high speed WiFi, installed 10 WiFi hotspots throughout Southwest Detroit, and is in the process of laying Detroit’s first fiber to the home infrastructure.

Our Advantage

For generations Corporations have been red lining urban neighborhoods from receiving high quality services from housing and food to utility and telecommunications services. We exist to build connectivity in our neighborhood which has been left out from accessing high quality WiFi connections. As residents of Southwest Detroit, we partner with 123Net, an Internet Service Provider and distribute broadband WiFi connections to our neighbors in Southwest Detroit. As residents we know the neighborhood and understand the challenges and opportunities connected with Southwest Detroit.

Equitable Internet Initiative in the Media

“I love the personal connection that EII provides to their customers. They’re affordable, fast and reliable. If I ever need help or have questions, Rita is always happy to help.”

— Idalis Longoria, Avis St. neighbor
